The Muros Traditional Marina
This marina has the mission of preserving and making the boats used by the previous generation, up to the mid-twentieth century, available to both nearby residents and visitors. It is, therefore, an appreciation of the maritime culture and its people, those dedicated to fishing and maritime transport and those who moved and transformed seafood on land. And it also wants to be a tribute to the local boat builders and those from all around the estuary, who built these precious jewels with the wood they collected on the mountains and the know-how passed down from generation to generation, adapting shapes and tackle to different fishing grounds and techniques.
Its facilities were made possible thanks to the collaboration of Portos de Galicia and the sponsorphips of the Costa Sostible GALP (Sustainable Coast Local Action Group) through EMFF funding.
Responsibility and management correspond jointly to the three associations in the area dedicated to the safeguard of the maritime heritage, which also contribute the boats on exhibition.
The watercraft in the Muros Traditional Marina
This marina begins its journey with a, still small, sample of traditional boats, representing nevertheless the most relevant and abundant types up to the middle of the last century in this port and its surroundings: galeón (schooner), the queen of cabotage for the transport of goods between the estuaries, buceta or canoa, dedicated to fishing and shellfishing, and the emblematic lancha xeiteira, historically dedicated to sardine fishing with the xeito technique.
